First Report: Everything This Site Can Do
A demo post that shows every formatting trick — open this file in VS Code next to the preview
This is a demo post. Open content/military-aviation/first-report-airshow/index.md in VS Code and compare it with the preview: every block below is written in plain markdown, plus a few simple “shortcodes”.
1 · A normal photo
A plain markdown image. It’s never taller than your screen, so the whole photo is always visible, on a phone or a 4K monitor. Click it to open the full-size file.

2 · A tall (portrait) photo
Portrait photos shrink to fit the screen height too, so you never have to scroll through half a picture.

3 · Looping video (MP4)
Plays by itself, silent, loops forever, like a GIF but sharp and small. Drop the .mp4 into the post folder:
4 · Photos side by side
Two photos in a row. On phones they stack on top of each other.
5 · Photo next to the text

Text flows around a floated photo. Use align="left" or align="right" and choose any width. Useful for smaller detail shots, portraits of pilots, badges or patches, while the text continues next to them.
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Integer vitae turpis at nisi ultrices blandit. Morbi ultrices, nisl non gravida dictum, sem arcu pretium lacus, a gravida ipsum nisi vel lorem.
6 · Wide panorama, edge to edge

7 · Formatting text
Normal markdown: bold, italic, strikethrough, a link, code and highlighted text.
BIG AMBER PIXEL TEXT
Red slab-serif text, any colour you like.
And coloured words in the middle of a sentence: blue and highlighted.
A paragraph can be given a style by adding a line right under it:
This paragraph is centred and small, thanks to the {.center .small} line under it.
The first letter of this paragraph is a big drop cap, magazine style. Add {.dropcap} under any paragraph. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua.
“A quote looks like this. Great for pilot interviews.”
— Somebody, Squadron Leader
8 · Boxes & columns
Type: MiG-29
Crew: 1
Max speed: Mach 2.25
Engines: 2× RD-33
A spec box floating on the right, the classic magazine “fact file”. Boxes come in styles note, warn, spec and plain, and can float left or right or take the full width.
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Nam fermentum, nulla luctus pharetra vulputate, felis tellus mollis orci, sed rhoncus sapien nunc eget odio.
A full-width warning box.
Column one. Text split into columns. Separate the columns with a line that contains only an arrow: three dashes and a greater-than sign.
Column two. Any markdown works inside, including images.
Column three. On phones the columns stack.
| Aircraft | Role | Units |
|---|---|---|
| MiG-29 | Fighter | 14 |
| H145M | Utility helicopter | 9 |
Raw HTML works too, if you ever need something special.
